Toyota is preparing an update for the Fortuner in 2025, aiming to strengthen its position in the declining but dedicated body-on-frame SUV segment. While crossovers dominate many markets, the Fortuner continues to appeal to buyers who value durability, off-road capability, and practicality, particularly in regions with challenging road conditions.
Exterior Enhancements
The updated design aligns with Toyota’s current SUV styling seen in models like the Tundra and Land Cruiser. Key changes include a larger grille, slimmer LED headlights, a more sculpted hood, and revised taillights. Wheel sizes now range up to 20 inches on higher trims, while the overall proportions remain consistent to maintain third-row usability.
Interior Improvements
The cabin receives significant updates with a new dashboard layout and a freestanding infotainment screen ranging from 10 to 12.3 inches. Toyota integrates its latest software, including wireless smartphone compatibility and over-the-air updates. Despite the digital enhancements, physical controls remain for key functions to ensure ease of use during off-road driving.
Upgraded materials, better seat ventilation, optional captain’s chairs, and improved third-row folding mechanisms increase comfort. USB-C ports and wireless charging are now available across all seating rows.
Toyota will retain the 2.8L turbodiesel in core markets while introducing a hybrid system that combines a 2.5L petrol engine with electric assistance. An 8-speed automatic transmission replaces the older 6-speed, and the Fortuner continues to offer a low-range gearbox and locking differentials in four-wheel-drive variants.

Updates to the Multi-Terrain Select system and the addition of a front-view camera improve off-road visibility and traction. Ground clearance remains at 225 mm, while water wading capacity increases to approximately 750 mm. Towing capacity rises to around 3,500 kg, depending on local regulations.
