King Charles, Prince William won’t attend Pope Leo’s inauguration: Here’s who will

King Charles and Prince William will not be attending the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV.

To represent the King, his brother, Prince Edward, is being sent to attend the event by Buckingham Palace.

The Duke of Edinburgh, 61, will attend the auspicious event, as confirmed by a Buckingham Palace spokesperson who spoke to People.

Pope Leo XIV, is the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church and first-ever American Pope.

King Charles congratulated the Pope via a private message on his and Queen Camilla’s behalf.

The inauguration will take place on May 18 in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City, according to Vatican News.

This comes after William represented King Charles and the royal family attended Pope Francis’ funeral Vatican City.

Charles shared his sadness over Pope Francis’ death in a heartfelt message, saying, “My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis. Our heavy hearts have been somewhat eased, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry.”
