Aimee Lou Wood’s pals are supporting her through the online rumors of a feud with her White Lotus costar Walton Goggins and the “mean” Saturday Night Live sketch that made fun of her appearance.
“Everyone is rallying around her, well, everyone except Walton Goggins, who she’s on the outs with, but the rest of the cast has totally been there for her,” a tipster told Life & Style.
“They’ve called her to tell her how absurd the sketch was,” added the source. “Other people have taken to social media to defend her, which has, of course, made her feel a whole lot better.”
“I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny,” the Sex Education star wrote on her Instagram story.
Clarifying her comment, she added, “I’m not thin-skinned. I love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature — I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”
She also later added that she didn’t harbor any hard feelings for comedian Sarah Sherman, who performed the sketch. Sherman had also sent her flowers to smooth things over between them.
According to the source, “so many women have reached out to tell her that her unusual smile has given them confidence in their own less than perfect teeth,” that Aimee “felt obligated to hit back on their behalf as much as her own because it’s just wrong on every level in her view.”
“It doesn’t mean it’s not painful for her to be mocked. She’s a very sensitive person and she’s also dealt with insecurity over her teeth. She took the jokes on SNL very hard,” they added.
